The Dubai Metro uses a zone-based fare system. The fare depends on how many zones you travel through:

How Dubai Metro Fares Are Calculated

Dubai Metro fares are primarily based on the distance traveled and the zones crossed, but there are some exceptions:

  • Journeys within 5 stations on the same line typically cost AED 3 (Silver Nol) regardless of zones
  • Journeys between 6-8 stations on the same line typically cost AED 5 (Silver Nol)
  • Longer journeys or those crossing multiple zones cost AED 7.5 (Silver Nol)
  • Adjacent stations between zones may have lower fares than expected
  • Tram journeys have a flat fare of AED 3 (Silver Nol)

Dubai Metro Zones

The Dubai Metro network is divided into 7 zones. Your fare depends on how many zones you travel through during your journey:

  • Zone 1: Includes Dubai Marina Tram stations
  • Zone 2: Includes parts of central Dubai
  • Zone 3: Includes Creek and Al Jadaf stations on the Green Line
  • Zone 4: Includes northern stations on the Green Line like e& (Etisalat) and Al Qusais
  • Zone 5: Includes most central stations on both Red and Green lines
  • Zone 6: Includes western stations on the Red Line like Jebel Ali and Ibn Battuta
  • Zone 7: Includes Expo 2020 station

Nol Card Information

To use the Dubai Metro, you need a Nol card. There are several types available:

  • Silver Nol Card: The standard card for regular travelers. Costs AED 25 (AED 19 credit + AED 6 card cost).
  • Gold Nol Card: For Gold Class cabin access. Costs AED 25 (AED 19 credit + AED 6 card cost).
  • Blue Nol Card: Personalized card for students, seniors, and people of determination. Costs AED 70.
  • Red Nol Card: Disposable paper ticket for one-time or occasional use. Costs AED 2 plus fare.

Daily Fare Cap

There is a daily fare cap of AED 14 for Silver/Blue Nol cards. This means you won't pay more than AED 14 per day regardless of how many journeys you make on the metro and tram.

Special Fares & Discounts

  • Children under 5 years: Free
  • People of Determination: 50% discount with special Blue Nol card
  • Senior Citizens (60+ years): 50% discount with special Blue Nol card
  • Students: 50% discount with special Blue Nol card
